How To Activate Timeline On Facebook Fan Pages

Facebook Timeline, which was rolled out for profile pages a while ago, caused a stir in the social networking website. Most of the users welcomed the new changes, and some didn’t like it at all. But that doesn’t stop Facebook from taking one step forward to enhance the Timeline experience for users. The social networking site, Facebook, has just unveiled Timeline interface for Brand pages.
If you own a Facebook Fan page, you can activate Timeline on your page right away. Just visit the Fan page associated with your Facebook ID, an invite to enable Timeline for your page should be waiting at the top of the page, just like the one in the screenshot below. Now you need to click on ‘Preview’ button to go to the next step.

As soon as you hit the Preview button, you’ll be welcomed with the new page layout, and a message at the top of the page that reads ‘Welcome to your new page preview’ and guide to make the best out of Timeline pages. It’s clearly written in the message that ‘On 30 March 2012 your Page will automatically get the new design’. You can choose to publish the Timeline for your fan pages and revert back to the old Fan page layout during the review period. This is how the Avitricks Group Fan page looks after enabling the Timeline.

Just like Profile pages, you are allowed to upload a page cover that will sit at the top of your page, and change it as often you like. You can also add or hide what you don’t want people to see. Photos, likes and apps are now at the top of your Page, but you can change the order of everything else so people see what matters most. You can show a maximum number of 12 apps.
Two new features that I believe every Facebook Fan page owner is going to like. First is, you can hover over a story and click on the star to make it wider, or on the pencil to pin it to the top of your Page to showcase the story, and second is, people can contact you privately using messages. As I stated above, clicking on ‘Publish’ button will permanently activate Timeline on your Facebook Fan pages. So click Publish Now or wait until all Pages get the new design automatically on 30 March 2012.
Last time I published about Timeline Remove Chrome extension that removes the Timeline feature from profile pages. I’m yet to try this extension on Facebook Timeline Fan pages. Now you can’t use a default landing tab for your Facebook page. That’s the most amazing feature I’m going to miss. What do you think, will your pages gain from Timeline feature? Drop-in your views about this fan page’s layout changes in the comment section below.
