Facebook has unveiled so many new features today at F8 that is currently (at the time of writing this post) on air. You can watch F8 live on the official Facebook page –facebook.com/f8. Mark Zuckerberg has announced a ton new features in Facebook which will be gradually rolling out to everyone over the coming weeks.
Let’s talk about the Facebook’s new timeline. Here’s what Mark Zuckerberg said about the Timeline at the F8 keynote.
All your stories, All your apps, A new way to express who you are.
Timeline shows off your Facebook content in a brand-new way, and it looks really interesting. It takes the place of your profile and provides a real time stream of everything you’ve done. It somewhat looks like a Tumblr blog, letting you scroll vertically through all the biggest moments in your life: maps of where you’ve been, pictures, comments, apps, and more.
The new Timeline allows you to connect your account with Spotify so that every activity you perform on Spotify will also show up on your Facebook profile. Moreover, if you friends click on that activity, the spotify player will start playing the song that you’re listening to on their computer. Isn’t it awesome? There are a lot more new features that I’ll be discussing in my coming posts. Instead, I first want to show you what the Facebook Timeline is. Check out the picture below how the new Timeline will look like.
How to activate new Timeline on your Facebook account
Facebook has just announced it at the F8 keynote. So they will take time, may be a couple of week, to roll out the new Timeline to everyone. But, they will make it available soon to users who have signed up for early access. You can sign up too for early access of the new Timeline. Just head over to Facebook Timeline Page and click on ‘Sign me up’ at the bottom right of the screen. That’s it!! Now whenever Facebook is ready to roll out this feature to a small group of people, you’ll be notified to activate the new Timeline.
I have to say, I’m totally impressed and eagerly waiting for the moment when the new timeline will come out. Do share your views on the new Facebook Timeline. I’d love to hear them.
Update: It’s confirmed that Facebook will roll out the new timeline on 30th September, 2011. But if you want the new timeline right this second on your profile, here’s the trick to activate the new Facebook timeline.
